Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years following that as general reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on at the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional Correspondent. She was made Chief White House correspondent in 1992. And Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a guest as a guest on TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the debates in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as the tax reforms to the budget and arms control. Mitchell travelled together with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan on numerous occasions for summits, and to discuss topics such as the Iran Contra controversy.
